At The Workroom, we’ve always been passionate about improving health communication via smart, authentic, relatable design – breathing new life into brands and turning even the most complex or ‘dry’ subject into something engaging and accessible.
Today, on World COPD Day, we’re taking a minute to reflect on the early awareness work we did for the National Asthma Campaign (NAC) in the 1990s which saw us:
* Producing and designing the Asthma News magazine, which won a PRWeek award for ‘Best Consumer Magazine for a not-for-profit’.
* Designing engaging posters for doctor’s surgeries, using used relatable cartoon scenarios to help people recognise symptoms and find support.
* Launching NAC’s identity with the strapline, “Getting your breath back” – presented at their annual conference to a packed auditorium.
In 2022, NAC merged with the British Lung Foundation (another former client) to form Asthma + Lung UK. While this meant saying goodbye to both original identities, the shared mission for better lung health continues, and is stronger than ever.
On World COPD Day, we’re reminded of the power of clear, accessible communication to raise awareness and save lives. Together, we can breathe easier.
