The Workroom has recently created the branding for a major new exhibition at Guildhall Art Gallery.
A major new exhibition at Guildhall Art Gallery features recent work by internationally renowned photographer Martin Parr, after he spent two years as the City of London’s photographer-in-residence, with unprecedented behind-the-scenes access.
From Swan Upping, Doggetts coat and badge, to The Lord Mayors Banquet and trial of the Pyx, the diverse ceremonies and rituals are brought together in the exhibition entitled Unseen City, with exhibition branding, design and wayfinding by Workroom.
The idea of visitors being given an exclusive peep into the workings of this historic and intriguing organisation proved the inspiration for Workroom for the creative approach. The fresh, contemporary branding and typography was laid over the photography, creating intriguing windows where elements of the image peeked through.
As well as drawing in the viewer and tempting them to peer through the typography to discover the image behind, a sense of interaction is often created between the typography/name and the people featured in the images.
The bold approach proved a hit with the City of London marketing department and the visitors alike; a record amount of visitors were drawn to the exhibition in the opening weekend, the Guildhall Art Gallery is now on course to have its busiest year ever.
